Ghostek - Ravenous

about

Russia has long been a hotspot for distinct and clever production, swallowing and processing the sounds of signals received for the occident and echoing them back with unique creativity and fresh perspective. Square Harmony has been at the forefront of a tidal wave of talented producers from beyond the Black Sea for just over a year now, with talented artists like Ghostek leading the charge with dark and intricate productions, like last year’s brilliant single ‘Navigate’. In 2013 the imprint expands however, with the advent of house and techno sub-label ‘March 85’’s explosive birth into the scene, its first compilation “Track’s 4 My Mom” amply demonstrating why it’s definitely going to be one to watch this year. Chock full of squelching acid basslines, industrial weight drum programming and tunnelling synths, “Tracks 4 My Mom” is an absolute mission statement – it’s rare that a label’s first release should so accurately set the tone for what’s to come. From the Blawan-esque stomp of Ghostek’s “Ravenous” to the relentless push of Atlus’s “Apophenia” via Kepikei & Toluen’s simply brutal “Mortem”, March 85’s inaugural compilation carves its way into the techno sphere kicking and screaming all the way. When something new comes along which hits this hard, it’s best to sit up and take notice.
